astroGC in Gran Canaria?
Why is astroGC leader in Gran Canaria?
1.- Equipments
At astroGC we are using extremely wide aperture telescopes along with state of art eyepieces. We are the only company offering 16" wide aperture telescopes in Gran Canaria. This newtonian telescopes are optimized for observation due to the reduced size of the secondary mirror. The eyepieces are Super and Extra Wide Angle from 70° to 100°. We are also using 2" OIII filters.
With this equipments, we easily magnify up to 200X with acceptable distortion.
2.- Observing points
The darkness is the most important for a good observation. You will be taken to the darkest area of the island, far away from the light pollution of tourist areas. The surrounding darkness and wide aperture telescope is the ONLY way to be able to appreciate the details for deep sky objects like galaxies, nebulae or globular clusters.

With high magnification

3.- It's a workshop
You will get involved in the workshop. We will invite to you actively take part in mounting the telescope, align it and use it. You will appreciate the earth rotation while observing with high magnification.
4.- Ride in mountains
Many guests are coming to the workshop despite of apparently no interest in astronomy, just to accompany their partner. If this is your case you may already enjoy the activity during the trip in mountains. There are impressive views on high cliffs. Yes, this is 100% safe as we take all needed precautions and we drive with absolutely no rush, for sure.
5.- One telescope for every 8 guests
Unless some clouds threaten, you will have plenty of time to observe. Some guests are repeating observing the same objects 2 or 3 times. Then, taking advantage of the darkness they go to another group and repeat again with another telescope. We love this.
6.- We adapt to the weather forecast
No doubts this is the most difficult part for us as we need to contact you during the morning or at midday to confirm the trip. But this is a very important point. Trying to observe the sky with some clouds is something frustrating. We do not want you to waste your time and money. You will only pay us if the sky was sufficiently clear during the workshop.
7.- Adapted to Elders, Children or disabled
There is hardly no walk involved. If you have reduced mobility, we can help you to get into the bus or climb one or 2 steps of a 3 steps ladder. We successfully attended guests multiple sclerosis and/or using a wheelchair.
